Zach Scott Theater October 19

Ginger Leigh just invited me to share a night with her at The Zachary Scott Theater – Tuesday, October 19. What a way to get back into playing my original music out. It will be an intimate setting. The theater seats 275 – 360 degrees around the stage… Think VH1 Storytellers. More soon. I’m so excited!

The post below  is part of what I just sent to my email list.  I’ve been wanting to get back to blogging, like I did before I started popping out kids.  I feel very blessed and content with my little surprise 3rd baby.  I used to say that 3 kids would be nice, if money, time, career, fitting them all in the car were not a factor. Now I keep singing that song “Three is a magic number” in my head… “Yes it is… It’s a magic number”.  I have a brother and a sister and I have often thought that we are like a tripod, the way we lean on and support each other.  Way stronger than two. As much as we have needed each other, I simply cannot imagine that my life would be anywhere near as rich with just my sister or just my brother, nor that we would be as close without all three of us.

So hooray! We did it! 3 kids in less than 4 years. I’m so relieved not to be pregnant any more and other than remaining present for every little moment of having such young children, the only thing to do is make music. To carve out the space to write more, lot’s more… really good songs and record them really well and collaborate with wonderful people. I flirted with all sorts of things, people, emotions before I was a mom. I’m so glad not to be that girl anymore, but at the same time, there is a lot from earlier that I hope to tap back into. The days of journaling for hours in a coffee shop are like the glory days of my youth now. I used to go there to “make” myself write. When you’re paying someone by the hour to watch your kids so that you can have a short spurt to yourself in a coffee shop to write, it’s just not the same. Instead of going into a zone where if it were not my own handwriting, I wouldn’t remember having ever written what’s on the page, it’s like, “Ready, Set, Be Creative”. I have certainly become more efficient, but I don’t think I’ve really gotten into the subconscious zone in years. I am officially looking forward to that next.

Meanwhile, these little rockers-in-the-making make me proud. They didn’t notice I was filming while I was sitting there nursing. I’m usually hesitant to put too much of my kids out there on the web, but this is musical :)

I’m Back!!!

Angus William Sharp arrived safely on August 2, 4 days past his due date (Yes, he is named after Angus Young from ACDC). So here we are only 3.5 weeks after his arrival and I start back full-time with The Jitterbug Vipers tomorrow. No matter where you are, you can watch a LIVE STREAM of our show tomorrow (Friday) at Fritz Park Pavillion in Hutto, TX. It’s from 7-9 CST. Featuring Masumi Jones, ‘The Tokyo Tsunami” on drums, Texas eclectic jazz-mandolin wizard, Paul Glasse, Most Dangerous Guitar Player, Slim Richey & Francie Meaux Jeaux on Bass. I plan to wear Angus in the sling and I suspect that he will be relieved to be back on stage with the band, since he spent so much time there in utero. A full list of upcoming shows is available on my Reverb Nation Profile. I’ve just added some recent, unreleased recordings that I hope you will take a few moments to listen to. A preview of what’s to come…

There are also new recordings of The Jitterbug Vipers on that Reverb Nation Profile.

The Whip In Wednesdaze shows start back next Wednesday. The last one in September will be an original show with Buffalo Speedway and Sam Arnold, because Slim and Francie will be out of town. I’m very much looking forward to getting to play some of my songs. Mark your calendar for September 29.

See you soon! SS

The Jitterbug Vipers are playing Kerrville Folk Festival June 13. In order to play Kerrville, we have to play “mostly” originals. So the Vipers have been learning some of my originals. We are using our Whip In shows as testing ground (rehearsal) for these songs. Some of them are starting to really swing! It’s a ton of fun for me to hear a whole new take on this material. So if you come to one of our Whip In Wednesdaze, the first set will be my originals a la Jitterbug Vipers and the second set will be our Jazz/swing/viper standards.

The Sweet Songs – Music for Families CD release was a huge success and the CD continues to sell well at Waterloo. If you know anyone with kids, I highly recommend this album.

I’m going to be doing some duets with Elizabeth McQueen some time soon at her Continental Club Happy Hour. She is the coolest. I can’t wait. I’ll keep you posted.

I have baby # 3 due in less than 2 months. It’s a boy. My last gig will probably be July 4 and then I’ll be back in September.

A Feature Film that I recently music supervised called ‘When Harry Tries to Marry’ is locked and now being submitted to film festivals. Here are the artists/songs that were used in the film. Luckily for me, the director is a big fan of my music. I could never place that many of my own songs in a film, just because I worked on it, even if I wanted to.
